Dario Franchitti says the IndyCar Series is putting a greater emphasis on safety this offseason.
The four-time series champ and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner says the crash that killed Dan Wheldon in October has renewed the effort of series officials to make the sport safer, and that he's pleased drivers have been included throughout the discussions.
Franchitti, a Scotsman, was a former teammate and close friend of Wheldon's. He also was one of the most outspoken drivers after the crash.
Last week, IndyCar officials said their investigation showed Las Vegas Motor Speedway's "limitless" racing surface was a significant factor in a "perfect storm" of conditions that led to the crash.
