The IndyCar Series will not race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next season.
Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was killed in a 15-car accident at the Las Vegas track in the opening laps of October's race.
Track owner Bruton Smith tells The Associated Press his company negotiated a deal that will allow IndyCar to buy out its previously announced 2012 race. The series will decide later if it wants to race there in 2013.
IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard had a three-year deal to lease the speedway and use it for the series' season finale.
IndyCar is still investigating the fatal accident, and many decisions about its 2012 schedule have been put on hold as it awaits the results. Among the issues is if the series can race on high-banked ovals such as Las Vegas.
