President Barack Obama has congratulated Tony Stewart for winning his third NASCAR championship.
Obama praised Stewart's come-from-behind win over Carl Edwards for the series title last month. Obama called Stewart and other drivers positive role models and "great ambassadors" for NASCAR.
The White House says Obama called Stewart Wednesday. The Columbus, Ind., native won championship with his Nov. 20 race victory - his third win among last four Sprint Cup Series races.
The call came 10 days after some fans booed first lady Michelle Obama at the race in Florida.
Columbus is honoring Stewart during the city's Christmas parade on Saturday. Stewart also won NASCAR championships in 2002 and 2005.
