Monrovia teacher-coach denies raping student

MONROVIA - A central Indiana high school teacher is denying rape and other charges in an alleged assault on a student.

The Herald-Times reports 45-year-old Daniel Goens entered a Marion County courtroom in tears Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, criminal deviant conduct, confinement and two counts of child seduction. He was arrested Thursday.

A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. He's currently held on a $40,000 bond.

A 16-year-old Monrovia High School student alleges Goens invited her to his Indianapolis home to babysit in May but when she went there they were alone and he forced her to have sex

Goens teaches and coaches football and track at Monrovia High, about 25 miles southwest of Indianapolis. Administrators have placed him on paid leave.
