Food truck match up in Downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - A new milestone in the countdown to the Super Bowl. Indianapolis will host the big game 100 days from now.

The city has been busy getting ready. Organizers are even making sure fans have plenty of food, and a food taste test is taking place today.

With the growing popularity of food trucks and celebrity chefs, a street food showdown today outside city market will celebrate those trends. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., two competitions will take place. Local top chefs will create their versions of street food, judged by a panel of experts, but you get to decide which of 13 food trucks is the best in the city by casting your vote.

The Showdown is targeting the general public in hopes of exposing fans to the new trends in food culture and offering you a taste of what you might experience downtown during Super Bowl week.

"The thing about food trucks is they're basically restaurants on wheels, so you'll see things from jambalaya to fancy kinds of tacos and different kinds of treats such as cupcakes and things of that nature, so it's not your average hot dog fare," says Marshawn Wolley of the Super Bowl Host Committee.

This friendly competition is really about exposure. Exact locations and varieties of street food is still in the planning stages, but today is certainly an opportunity for many of these chefs to try out their creations on Hoosiers in preparation of the big event.
