PUTNAM COUNTY - In Putnam County thieves are targeting mailboxes and possibly personal information.

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night keeps the rural postal carrier from their appointed rounds. But, that doesn't mean their customers are getting what's delivered.

"We're currently investigating mailbox theft of mail, 35 incidents last Monday, October 3rd" said Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts.

State Police investigators say all of the complaints came from along route State Road 231 south of Greencastle, near County Road 350 South. The thieves took personal information and dumped the junk mail in a neighbors yard.

Thieves who target mailboxes are looking for more than checks. They are looking for information like credit card numbers, bank accounts and other information you probably want to protect.

It's enough to make people in Putnam County take notice.  Police have no leads in the case. But they do have advice for the people targeted. They suggest that you pick up your mail as soon as it's delivered.
