PENDLETON, IN (AP) - A woman badly injured in the Indiana State Fair stage collapse is out of the hospital where she was treated for three weeks, although relatives and friends say she still faces a long recovery.
More than 40 people gathered at a weekend vigil for 30-year-old Andrea Vellinga in her central Indiana hometown of Pendleton. The Herald Bulletin of Anderson reports she was transferred Saturday from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to another facility, where doctors will be taking her out of a medically induced coma.
Vellinga suffered severe head injuries when high winds blew down the outdoor stage rigging Aug. 13. Seven people have died and dozens of others were injured.
Friend Emma Johnson helped organize the vigil and says she is continually blown away by the community's support.
