Talks on for deal at closed Indiana toothpaste plant

Updated:

CLARKSVILLE - Officials say they're negotiating on bringing in the first new businesses to a southern Indiana toothpaste factory site that closed nearly four years ago.

Clarksville officials indicated the possible tenants are health care-related businesses and could bring in a few hundred jobs to the former Colgate-Palmolive Plant along the Ohio River across from Louisville, Ky., that once employed about 1,500 people.

The News and Tribune of Jeffersonville reports town planning director Sharon Wilson says the companies are also working with state economic development officials and that an announcement could be made in the coming weeks.

Wilson says getting the first businesses into the 52-acre site could spark additional interest.
