Marian University breaks ground for new medical school

Updated:

INDIANAPOLIS - Marian University officials have broken ground on a $48 million new medical school that's being paid for by the founder of an Indianapolis life sciences company.

During Wednesday's groundbreaking, school officials introduced AIT Laboratories CEO Michael A. Evans as the previously anonymous donor whose $48 million gift is paying for the project.

Evans said the new medical school building in Indianapolis will allow students to graduate "with the ability to treat families and improve their lives." The new medical school will be Indiana's first new school of its kind in more than 100 years.

Marian officials say it will educate osteopathic physicians and help address Indiana's shortage of doctors.
