WINFIELD - Authorities in northwestern Indiana say a 3-year-old girl drowned in her family's home swimming pool while playing with other children.
Lake County police say the parents of Sydney Johnson and two other adults were inside the home near the town of Winfield when one of the children told them the girl was underwater and wasn't coming up.
Another child pulled Sydney from the water, but she was pronounced dead later Sunday evening at a hospital in Crown Point.
Police Cmdr. Robert Arnold tells The Times of Munster that the drowning is believed to be accidental, but police and state Child Protective Services continue to investigate.
