INDIANAPOLIS - Organizers are still working to raise money for a memorial in downtown Indianapolis to the 2001 terrorist attacks that will feature two large steel beams from the World Trade Center.

City-County Councilman Jeff Cardwell tells WIBC-FM that work is on pace for the memorial to be completed in time for the planned Sept. 11 dedication. He says donations increased dramatically after the 22-foot-long beams arrived in Indianapolis in April.

Cardwell says organizers are about $90,000 short of their $350,000 goal.

The two beams were at the Hoosier Park casino in Anderson on Sunday, where they were draped in a large American flag on a transport truck.

Kaye Westfall is the mother of a soldier in Afghanistan and tells The Herald Bulletin that seeing the beams up close was awe inspiring.
