INDIANAPOLIS - Late Monday, Eyewitness News was informed that 24-year-old Megan Toothman of Cincinnati had been pronounced dead at 3:31pm Monday afternoon.
Her death marks the seventh death directly due to injuries sustained when stage rigging collapsed prior to a Sugarland concert August 13 at the Indiana State Fair. The three other people she sat in the front row with suffered broken bones but are said to be alert.
Earlier in the day, Meagan's family used the website Caring Bridge to announce: "The outpouring of love and hope was more than we could possibly expected and was an inspiration to all of us to keep her fighting. We hope that she will continue to touch more lives in the same way through her passing. Please continue to keep her and our family in your prayers. At this time arrangements are uncertain and we ask that you continue to respect Meagan's privacy at this time. Her light will continue to shine on all of us as her journey of hope continues on to heaven."
Meagan's family decided to donate the 24-year-old's organs. Her sacrifice will mean life to as many as eight other people.
Krystal Berger says Meagan's future had been bright. "Meagan was also going to be a school psychiatrist and also a counselor working with kids," said Burger. "So it's a huge loss to our community, without question. It's really unbelievable that you can go to a concert and have something like this happen to you. I know our community and kids will rally around her family and her spirit will live for a long time. She made a huge impact."
