INDIANAPOLIS - Support from the Indianapolis Colts likely will at least double the nearly $60,000 collected so far for victims of the Indiana State Fair stage collapse.
Colts owner Jim Irsay says he will donate $1 to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund for each ticket distributed for the team's preseason home game Friday against the Washington Redskins.
"Last Saturday our community was shaken to the core as we witnessed a tragedy that claimed five lives and left many injured. Through this heartbreaking accident, we have seen the strength, courage and compassion of Hoosiers across this great state," said Jim Irsay. "As we remember those we lost and offer our thoughts and prayers, I invite our fans to join us in lending a hand to help these families through this difficult time."
Lucas Oil Stadium was a capacity of 63,000 for Colts games.
The team also will encourage fans at the game and through radio, television and online coverage to make $10 donations by texting FAIR to 27722*.
Central Indiana Community Foundation spokesman Mike Knight says a relocated fair concert by Train and Maroon 5 at Conseco Fieldhouse Thursday was expected raise at least $500,000 for the fund.
