Indiana man sentenced to 58 years in 1992 slaying

Updated:

A former Gary man has been sentenced to 58 years in prison for a woman's 1992 slaying solved by DNA testing not available nearly 20 years ago.

A Lake County judge sentenced 59-year-old Donald Campbell on Friday for the fatal stabbing of Donna Hogue. A co-worker found the 62-year-old face down in her Gary home with a steak knife in her back.

Campbell was linked to the June 1992 killing two years ago following a tip to Lake County authorities.

DNA testing not available in 1992 further tied him to the slaying and he was arrested in 2009. Campbell was convicted of murder earlier this year.

Four of Hogue's relatives had asked the judge to sentence Campbell to life in prison.
