INDIANAPOLIS - Forget, for the moment, your cholesterol numbers. The Indiana State Fair, which begins this Friday (Aug. 5) is rolling out some new temptations for 2011.
Among this year's offerings at Carousel Concessions are the mac and cheese burger, the French toast burger, the grub burger the chicken Eggo and, disturbingly, the ice cream burger.
All the burgers are fresh pattied. The bread on the French toast burger and the waffle on the chicken Eggo are dipped in egg wash and then tossed in crunched up Captain Crunch cereal.
The ice cream burger is a burger topped with Mexican ice cream and rolled in cornflakes and cinnamon.
The garbage burger is a burger topped with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, fries, cole slaw and our special sauce.
If that's not enough, there will also be deep-fried Kool-Aid. Just don't ask how they do it.
Because it's year of the soybeans at the fair, five foods will utilize soybeans. For the sixth consecutive year, the State Fair teamed up with The Indianapolis Star for the Signature Food competition. A panel of eight judges sampled five of the fair's newest foods and readers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite one. All five finalists will be available at the fair.
