NOBLESVILLE - The heat of the summer this week can take its toll on youngsters at area practices and sports camps. But one group has found relief at a brand new indoor complex in Hamilton County.
Class is in session at a $2 million facility called Golf 365 in Noblesville.
"When you hit the first shot, where do you hit it from? The tee box," said Golf 365 co-owner Sam Foley.
This summer, PGA Tour instructor Sam Foley is focusing his advice on some of the game's smallest students.
"We introduce kids to the game, all the language that goes with it, the rules and etiquette," said Foley.
"My favorite part is probably the automatic tee because you don't have to run and chase the ball. You have it right there, and then you can hit more, " said Elizabeth Score, student.
Then there is the target room.
"This target room is awesome for understanding how to play the game, because when you go out on the golf course, it's all about hitting targets," said Foley.
But it seems that the kids' favorite game doesn't involve the golf ball. It's a beach ball that Foley uses to demonstrate how to hit targets.
Foley also takes the high-tech approach. There are four golf simulators where you can play any one of fifty golf courses around the world, including Pebble Beach.
"It's a very controlled environment. We have a lot of technology here," said Foley.
"And that was a pretty good drive, I can play with that. And that sets me up for a nice second shot on the 18th hole of Pebble Beach par five," said Foley.
You'll find more grownups here all year round, using the training facilities and the two-thousand square foot putting green.
For now though, 11-year-old Cole Van Devender says his summer school has been well worth it.
"My dad is amazing at golf and he wanted me to play. And I wanted to play. I don't know why, but it just seemed like a cool game," said Cole.
