FISHERS -
An already-congested drive along I-69 is about to become even more of a headache as a major bridge project gets
Crews will have I-69 at 126th Street in Fishers reduced to one lane in each direction beginning Tuesday night.
Work begins tonight and won't be finished until mid-November.
The existing bridge is being widened from 2 to four lanes...two in each direction.
There will also be a bike lane and a pedestrian lane for joggers and walkers.
Tonight work crews will be installing concrete barriers along the interstate median to protect construction workers while they are reconstructing the bridge piers or supports.
Harry Maginity of INDOT explained, "So from 9 o'clock to 6 o'clock in the morning it is going to be reduced to a single lane coming through there. And throughout the construction there are going to be times we are working on bridge piers and things like that and setting beams where there is going to be restrictions on I-69. Usually those take place at night."
Sometime after July 12th, that's next week, 126th Street is going to be shut down.
That is going to be a real pain for workers and families accustomed to traveling through the area.
They will have to take the long way around.
Here is the detour: plan on driving Brooks School Road and Cumberland Road to the south to get past I-69 then cutting across 116th Street.
That probably won't be too bad for the summer but once school starts, traffic is likely to pick up, so plan ahead
