LAWRENCE -
Lawrence Police arrested two men, and are looking for a third, following a carjacking Wednesday morning at 79th and Sunnyside.
They say a woman driving a silver Dodge was "tapped" by another car around 3 a.m. At that point, police say, Sonny Jones, 30, Indianapolis, threatened the woman with a gun, then he and another man entered her stopped vehicle and drove away.
The woman was not injured.
As police attempted to stop the vehicle at 56th and Post Road, Jones allegedly did not stop and drove west on 56th Street to the area of 56th and Channing. There, police say, Jones and the unidentified passenger bailed from the vehicle.
A police dog caught Jones, who faces a preliminary count of carjacking, a class B felony. Additional charges are likely, as Jones is eligible for the Serious Violent Felon enhancement for committing this act while armed with a handgun, also a B felony, and resisting law enforcement, a D felony. His case will be presented to the prosecutor later this week.
The passenger eluded police. He is described as a black male in his 20's, dressed in all black. If you have information on this suspect, contact CrimeStoppers of Central Indiana at 262-TIPS.
Police also arrested the driver of the vehicle which "tapped" the silver Dodge allegedly initiating the carjacking incident. Jeremy Wiley, 32, of Mooresville, was interviewed by detectives faces a possible charge of conspiracy to commit robbery, also a class B felony.
Police say Jones is currently on parole, having been released from prison in April of 2011. He has previous convictions of dealing cocaine and aggravated battery in Marion County.
Wiley has previous convictions of burglary in both Marion and Hendricks counties.
