Connersville student arrested for setting off fireworks at school

CONNERSVILLE - A student at Connersville Middle School has been turned over to police after fireworks were set off in a school bathroom.

Students had to be evacuated from the school Monday and stayed outside of the building for about two hours until emergency responders issued an all-clear.

The fireworks damaged the bathroom, but no one was injured.

Connersville Police say the student filled a trash can in the boys' restroom with fireworks, pulled the fire alarm and then set fire to the fireworkis.

The suspect is 14 years old. He faces charges of felony arson and criminal mischief with more charges possible. The student is in custody at a juvenile correctional facility in Muncie.
