MARTINSVILLE - A 15-year-old Indiana middle school student has come a long way since being shot seven weeks ago, and he has a long way to go before returning to the sports-filled life he once had.

Chance Jackson was attending Martinsville West Middle School when he was shot March 25. Fifteen-year-old Michael Phelps faces charges in adult court.

Chance sustained wounds in multiple organs and spend a month in the hospital.

Becky Jackson tells The Reporter-Times her son still tires very easily.

Chance played on the football team last fall and was signed up for spring track.

He's expected to miss the football season this fall but homes to swim next winter.

Chance says he was happy to visit the school May 9 and "wanted to get back to see everybody."
