Chikage Windler

SkyTrak Weekend Meteorologist

Chikage Windler joined the SkyTrak Weather Team in May of 2011. Her weathercasts can be seen on weekend and weeknight editions of Eyewitness News and on the SkyTrak Weather Network. Before coming to WTHR, Chikage was a meteorologist at KSTP-TV, the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis-St. Paul. During this time Chikage appeared as a guest meteorologist on ABC's "Good Morning America" and "ABC World News." Chikage also worked at WHDH-TV in Boston, WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., TXCN in Dallas, and WVEC-TV in Norfolk.

Chikage got her start in television working behind-the-scenes in the weather department of KOTV in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Before television, Chikage actually chased tornadoes as part of the VORTEX-95 project at the National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma.

Growing up in the heart of "tornado alley," Chikage decided to pursue meteorology as a career. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in Meteorology and a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Oklahoma. Chikage is an AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and holds the AMS and National Weather Association Seal of Approval.

She was honored with the 2009 Upper Midwest Emmy Award for Outstanding Weathercaster and was nominated in 2010. She was also nominated for a New England Emmy Award for her weathercasts in 2006.

People often ask Chikage about her unique name. It's Japanese (Chikage is half-Japanese) and means "thousands of views or vistas." She enjoys photography, shopping, college football, and everything outdoors. Chikage and her husband Jamie have a daughter named Austen, born in 2007.
