Protests slam Indiana Planned Parenthood funding cut

Updated:

LAFAYETTE - Planned Parenthood supporters at rallies across Indiana say state legislators went too far by pushing to cut off $3 million a year in funding to the organization.

Dozens of people attended a rally Monday in Lafayette, with similar crowds at events in Fort Wayne and Bloomington.

Planned Parenthood educator Betty Memmer told the Lafayette crowd that the organization wasn't going away and that supporters needed to make their anger known at the ballot box.

The Journal & Courier reports Jack Ruckel of Lafayette parked his truck with a large anti-abortion sign across the street from the protest. Ruckel says he's against tax money going to groups that provide abortions.

Gov. Mitch Daniels says he'll sign into law the cutoff of funding to Planned Parenthood for health screenings and contraception.
