ANDREWS - Investigators in Huntington County found have about 40 dead llamas and more than 40 others that were starving.
Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel says officers found the "horrific" scene near the town of Andrews, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
He tells The Journal Gazette that the llamas that were still alive were "just skin and bones." They were to be evaluated at other area farms.
Detective Chad Hammel says llamas carcasses in various stages of decomposition were found throughout the property.
Thomas Andrew, owner of the property, was arrested on a felony charge of improper disposal of dead animals and a misdemeanor animal neglect charge. He was being held at the Huntington County Jail Thursday night. An officer there says Andrew didn't have an attorney.
