Man steals ambulance, leads police on I-65 pursuit

New Albany - A southern Indiana man is behind bars after police say he stole an ambulance from outside a New Albany restaurant and led officers on a chase up Interstate 65.

Indiana State Police have charged 43-year-old Larry R. Loughman of Jeffersonville with felony counts of auto theft in Clark, Floyd, Scott and Jackson counties. He was being held without bail Monday at the Floyd County Jail in New Albany.

The Orange County EMS ambulance was taken from the restaurant's parking lot while the crew ate inside Saturday night. State police say they finally stopped the ambulance near Seymour after it had struck one patrol car. Officers used a stun gun to subdue Loughman but no injuries were reported.

A jail officer says he doesn't know if Loughman has an attorney.
