Police: Driver inattention played role in Ripley County crash

Posted: Updated:

Ripley County - Police say driver inattention was a likely factor in a crash that killed two young sisters in Ripley County last Thursday afternoon.  Police don't believe excessive speed was a factor.

Two children were fatally injured when a semi tractor rear-ended their Chevy pickup truck on US 421.

The pickup truck, driven by 31-year-old Kristopher Brown of Versailles, was stopped southbound on US 421 waiting to turn left onto CR 450 S when the crash occurred.

Brown's children, 7-year-old Kacy Nonoka Indiana Brown and 6-year-old Grace Nana Brown were riding in the back seat of the pickup and were killed instantly. Brown and his wife, Ai Odashima Brown, were transported by medical helicopter to a Cincinnati hospital.

The Browns remain in critical condition Monday at University Hospital in Cincinnati, OH but according to family members, seem to be showing slight improvement.

Master Trooper Ben Bastin expects to turn the case over to the Ripley County Prosecutor's office sometime later this week for review for any possible charges.
