Peru woman killed in Miami County crash

Updated:

Miami County - A Peru woman died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Miami County.

Police say 30-year-old Cassandra Hovis was driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on SR 19 when she crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck a northbound Ford F-150 pickup truck. Both Hovis and the pickup's driver, 34-year-old Adam Starkey, also of Peru, had to be extracted from their vehicles.

Hovis was pronounced dead at the scene. Starkey was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne with leg injuries. Police say a seat belt likely reduced the severity of his injuries.
