INDIANAPOLIS, January 25, 2011—Michael J. Fiorile, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Dispatch Printing Company and Vice Chairman/CEO of Dispatch Broadcast Group, Columbus, Ohio, announces the promotion of John Cardenas to President and General Manager of WTHR-TV (Channel 13) and WALV (The SkyTrak Weather Network.)

"John has done an outstanding job since arriving in Indianapolis," said Fiorile. "His leadership, commitment to journalism and passion for success continues to strengthen WTHR's position as Indiana's News Leader. We are pleased to be able to provide this recognition to John in honor of his accomplishments."

WTHR continues to dominate the Nielsen ratings in both news and programming. In the recent November sweeps, WTHR's newscasts were ranked #1 in every key time period and the station won all major locally-programmed time periods with syndicated programming such as Oprah and Dr. Phil. In the early evening news block, WTHR beat WRTV and WISH combined at 5pm and 5:30pm. At 6pm, WTHR beat all other local newscasts combined. In fact, the market's top five weekday newscasts are all on WTHR.

WTHR has earned numerous local, regional and national awards during Cardenas's tenure, including multiple regional Emmy awards and the prestigious duPont Columbia award for investigative journalism.

John Cardenas joined WTHR in June of 2010 as Vice President and General Manager. Before coming to WTHR, he was news director for 11 years at Dispatch Broadcast Group station WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. He was also news director at KPHO in Phoenix from 1996-1999 and held other news management positions at stations in San Diego and Norfolk, Virginia.
