Indiana panel OKs adding cell numbers to no-call list

Updated:

Indianapolis - An Indiana House committee has endorsed a bill that would allow residents to add their cell phone numbers to the state's do-not-call list for unwanted telemarketing calls.

The bill approved Tuesday by the Judiciary Committee would also prohibit marketers from sending text or photo messages to cell phones that are included on the list.

Indiana's no-call list started in 2002, with residents able to add their numbers through the state attorney general's office to a roster that is updated four times a year.

Bill sponsor Rep. Eric Koch of Bedford said the bill would align state law with current technology, giving cell phone users the same privacy protection as their landlines. The bill now goes to the full House for its consideration.
