Indianapolis - An arrest has been made in a hit and run crash that critically injured an Indianapolis woman.

The crash happened Saturday night near 16th and Drexel Streets on the city's east side.

Police say the victim, 33-year-old Tabetha Lynn, was standing next to her broken down car when she was hit at around 10:00 pm. Witnesses told police they saw an SUV speed off.

Tuesday, officers arrested 49-year-old Edward Karwatka. Police say he has admitted to being behind the wheel and he faces felony charges.

Lynn, whose car caught fire after the crash, remains in critical condition.

"She was standing at the trunk, at the rear of the vehicle, when another vehicle came up, rear-ended her, driving her between the two vehicles and then pushing her forward," said witness Levi Jacobs. "The lady was lying in the middle of the road, the car was flaming, on fire, (I) went over there and called 911 as quickly as I could. She was moving a little bit and talking."

Lynn's 16-year-old son, Chris, was waiting for his mother to come home Saturday night.

"I guess they took her to the hospital and she was in serious condition," he said. "I don't really know how to take this kind of stuff. I don't prepare myself for this."

Karwatka was also arrested in February 2004 for allegedly harboring fugitive Dr. Thomas Hoshour, who faked his own death after prosecutors charged him with insurance fraud. Karwatka is a former employee of the doctor.
