INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Alex Young scored 21 points Thursday night to pace IUPUI to a 70-55 victory over Western Illinois.
Stephen Thomas added 16 points and Leroy Nobles 15 for the Jaguars (8-8, 2-1 Summit), who shot 50.0% (28 of 56).
Matt Lander led the Leathernecks (5-7, 1-2) with 16 points. His 3 for 4 effort on 3-pointers highlighted Western Illinois' 7 of 12 shooting from long range. Tommie Tyler added 11 points and Kaimarr Price 10.
After a 6-6 tie, the Jaguars set off on a 14-2 run fueled by seven points from Young to forge a 20-8 lead with 11:39 left in the first half. IUPUI pushed the gap to 41-25 at intermission.
Thomas hit a jumper with 18:12 left that raised the lead to 20 points at 45-25, and the Jaguars cruised the rest of the way. They won their fifth straight over the Leathernecks.
IUPUI held a 38-23 rebounding advantage.
