Muncie - Keith Wenning threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to David Schneider in the second overtime and Joshua Howard came up with an interception to end the game as Ball State kept Akron winless with a 37-30 victory Saturday.
Wenning threw three touchdown passes, Jack Tomlinson had seven receptions for 175 yards and three scores and Ian McGarvey kicked three field goals as the Cardinals (3-7, 2-7 Mid-American Conference) ended a four-game losing streak.
Alex Allen rushed for 165 yards and Patrick Nicely threw four TD passes for the Zips (0-10, 0-6), but Akron's hopes ended when Nicely's pass on third-and-10 in the second OT was picked off by Howard.
The Zips, who lost their 14th straight road game, forced overtime when Nicely found Jeremy LaFrance with an 11-yard TD strike with 1:36 left in regulation, tying the score at 23-all.
