Indiana orders Halloween curfew for sex offenders

Updated:

Indianapolis - Indiana parole officers are ordering curfews and mandatory meetings for registered sex offenders this weekend to keep them off the street while children are out trick-or-treating.

The Indiana Department of Correction will require paroled sex offenders to attend mandatory meetings, to turn in safety plans, and not to hand out candy at their homes.

Sex offenders who remain home have been advised to turn off their outside lights during the evening hours Saturday and Sunday and to not display Halloween decorations. Many will post signs saying they are not passing out candy.

In some cases, parole officers or local police will make unannounced checks to make sure the registered sex offenders are abiding by the rules.
