SW Indiana man dies while ice-fishing on pond

Updated:

Linton, IN (AP) - Authorities say a 77-year-old southwestern Indiana man has died after he apparently fell through ice on a frozen pond while ice-fishing.

Indiana Conservation Officer Max Winchell says the body of Delmar W. Scott of Jasonville was found Saturday night at the bottom of the Greene County pond.

Winchell told the Greene County Daily World that Scott's relatives visited the pond after he failed to return from an ice fishing trip and found a capsized boat on the ice-covered pond.

Winchell says recent warm weather has weakened the remaining ice making it unsafe to walk on for ice-fishing. He says people should always wear a life jack while ice fishing.

He says Scott had not been wearing a life jacket.
