Indianapolis - Police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old woman found in her home Friday afternoon.

Kellye Schultz was found by a friend inside her house in the 200 block of North Warman on the city's west side. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Officers say her three children were not home with her Thursday night. Long-time neighbors and friends say Schultz had been having a rough time lately.

"She hasn't made the greatest choices in the world. She has been a good friend to the family and we have always enjoyed having her around. We are really gonna miss her, We really are," said JoAnne Reeves.

JoAnne and Mathew Reeves have been friends with Schultz since she was in high school. They are now coping with her death.

"Because it is so close to home, somebody you know," said JoAnne. "Because we have known her for so long - 15 years," added Mathew.

They know her three boys, ages 3, 9 and 11, and they know the rest of her family. They say Schultz has been going through some difficult times.

"It is just the life; the choices she has made in life. She was trying to turn it around. She has tried several times. It is a rough thing to do," said JoAnne.

Police say that Schultz's boyfriend found her Friday afternoon. She had not been heard from since late Thursday night. Neighbors say she remained isolated from many of her friends and family.

"We didn't really keep that much contact with her in the recent times because - I mean it was hard. She was in the bad part of life and we tried to steer clear of her but we checked up on her to make sure she was okay," said Mathew.

Police say she had been living alone. Her three children stayed with their father.

Anyone with information is asked to contact IMPD or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
