Trucks left the City-County Building Friday morning with 35,000 items headed for Gleaners Food Bank. The donations were part of the mayor's "Pack the Pantries" food drive.
The head of Gleaners said she has never seen anything like it in nearly 30 years. Mayor Greg Ballard said, in addition to the food items, people donated $70,000.
"This is really what Indianapolis does best. We help each other, we pick each other up," Ballard said.
Gleaners serves 430 hunger relief charities in Indiana.
