Indianapolis - A state representative from southern Indiana said he will not seek a third term in the Indiana General Assembly.
Rep. Phil Hoy, a Democrat from Evansville, said he wants to spend more time with his wife and grandchildren. Hoy plans to serve out his current term but will not seek re-election in House District 77, which covers downtown Evansville and other areas in Vanderburgh and Warrick counties.
"We are described as a part-time citizen legislature," he said. "However, representing your district to the best of your ability is a full-time job."
Hoy is a retired minister and former executive director of the Tri-State Food Bank. He served three terms on the Vanderburgh County Council before being elected to the Indiana House in 2004.
Hoy is among several House Democrats who are not seeking re-election this year.
State Rep. Dave Crooks, D-Washington, said he is not running again because his family life and growing business interests left too little time for politics. Rep. Joe Micon, D-West Lafayette, said he will serve as the executive director of the Lafayette Urban Ministry following the 2008 legislative session. He also says he is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
Democrats will go into the 2008 election with a 51-49 majority in the House.
