
Indianapolis - Saturday is the day to get rid of your hazardous household waste.
The City of Indianapolis, in partnership with Butler University and the Butler Tarkington Neighborhood Association, will host a ToxDrop event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010. Mayor Greg Ballard will be on site with residents and city staff from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Indianapolis residents are encouraged to help keep the city sustainable by bringing household hazardous waste and electronics to the ToxDrop event, located in the Hinkle Fieldhouse Parking Lot, 510 W. 49th Street, Indianapolis.
Residents of Marion County can use this program to properly dispose of unwanted and unused household hazardous waste. Over the last decade, the City's ToxDrop program has diverted annually in excess of 1 million pounds of household hazardous waste from the city's sewers, waterways, and landfills.
Household hazardous waste items accepted at the ToxDrop event include:
• Aerosol cans
• Automotive fluids
• Fluorescent light bulbs
• Gasoline
• Household cleaners
• Lawn and garden chemicals
• Lithium batteries
• Mercury thermometers and thermostats
• Paint, stains, and thinners
• Pool chemicals
• Used motor oil

E-waste items accepted at the ToxDrop Event include:
• Cell phones
• Computers (desktop and laptop)
• Computer peripheral devices
• Game systems
• Small kitchen appliances
• Stereos
• Televisions (27" and smaller)
• VCRs
