Inmate stabbed to death at Pendleton facility

Updated:

Pendleton - Authorities say an inmate was killed at the Pendleton Correctional Facility Saturday afternoon.

Superintendent Alan Finnan said in a release that 52-year-old offender Charles L. Jackson was stabbed by another inmate shortly before 1:30 Saturday as offenders were being released to go to recreation. Jackson, who previously lived in Marion, was transported to the facility's emergency room, where he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes later.

A suspect in the homicide was identified and segregated from the rest of the population. The facility is on lockdown as authorities investigate the stabbing.

Jackson was serving an 80-year sentence for a rape he committed in Grant County in February 1996. He had been confined at the Pendleton facility since 2004.
