Indianapolis - Freshman state Rep. Dennie Oxley won't be at the Statehouse on Tuesday when the General Assembly reconvenes.
Oxley's family issued a statement Monday saying he has been under medical care since going into cardiac arrest while being held for observation at the Jasper Memorial Hospital in mid-November.
The family says it has asked House Speaker Patrick Bauer to excuse Oxley from attending Indiana House sessions in Indianapolis this week. They say they fully expect him to return to his job serving the 73rd House district very soon.
Oxley is a 60-year-old Democrat from the Crawford County town of Taswell. He was elected in 2008, succeeding his son, Dennie Oxley Jr., who held the seat for 10 years.
