Indianapolis - A Wednesday afternoon industrial accident left a 53-year-old Indianapolis man dead. It happened at Horner Electric in the 2900 block of Bluff Road on the city's south side.

OSHA was on the scene investigating the death of David Jansen. Police say a co-worker discovered Jansen on the floor around 2:30 this afternoon.

It appeared Jansen had suffered a severe traumatic head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, no one witnessed the accident. Co-workers say Jansen would have been on a ladder right before it happened.

"What we think may have happened is he may have become entangled in a piece of equipment which caused his traumatic injury or he might have had a medical event prior to that causing him to fall into the equipment which resulted in that injury," said Sgt. Paul Thompson, Metro Police.

A company spokesperson for Horner Electric says employees are devastated and their prayers are with the Jansen family. Jansen's brother and sister also worked at the company.

Jansen was with the company about four years and has also worked for the company in previous years.

An autopsy will be conducted to help determine if Jansen may have suffered from a medical problem prior to the incident.
