Indiana town clerk resigns after charges filed

Updated:

Lakeville - An Indiana town official who was jailed on accusations he beat his girlfriend has resigned.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Lakeville Clerk-Treasurer Casey Grove after he skipped arraignment on charges of battery and residential entry. He surrendered Oct. 3 and remained jailed one week later.

Prosecutors say the 30-year-old attacked his 20-year-old girlfriend after finding her in bed with another man at the man's South Bend home.

Grove announced the resignation Monday when he appeared without a lawyer at a hearing on whether to issue a permanent order preventing him from conducting town business.

Grove was elected in 2007. Lakeville is about 10 miles south of South Bend.
