Terre Haute - If you have a student struggling in math or science, there's a free place to find help. The answers come from some of the brightest minds in the country.
Questions in Algebra, trigonometry and calculus can be daunting. Understanding, physics, biology and chemistry can be a challenge.
But the bright minds working the phones at the Rose-Hulman Homework Hotline help Indiana students find the answers.
"We want to help Indiana students be better students. We want to help them understand their homework, understand what they're learning in their math and science classes," said Abigail Switzer, senior.
The students working the phones have most of the textbooks used in Indiana classrooms. They work with dry erase boards to solve problems on the phone or through an online chat.
"They'll start on the problem. They'll work step by step, how to do the problem, make sure the student understands every single step, two to three problems, to as many as it takes to really understand how to do it," said Switzer.
The homework helpline took over 44,000 calls last year, solving problems and helping Indiana students understand complex subjects.
"It always feels good when someone says, 'Ah ha! I actually did this.' It makes me feel really happy," said Ben Schrodt, senior.
"You remember those days when you couldn't do the problem. You know they're getting it solved. It's good," said Julie Brennan, senior.
The homework hotline is open Sunday through Thursday, 7:00 to 10:00 pm. The service and the answers. are free.
The phone number is easy to remember. It's toll free, 1-877-ASK-ROSE. More info.
