A veteran journalist with more than 25 years of experience in TV news, Mary Milz is Channel 13's Citybeat reporter. Mary routinely breaks stories on city government while covering a variety of issues affecting residents of the Indianapolis metropolitan area.
Mary grew up in Evanston, Illinois, earning a degree in broadcast journalism from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Her first television job took her west to Midland, Texas where she worked as an anchor, reporter and producer covering the rescue of Baby Jessica and the ups and downs of the oil industry.
Mary later returned to the Midwest as a general assignment reporter for WHO-TV in Des Moines. Her stories included the crash of United Flight 232, the floods of 1993 and the Iowa caucuses. She also worked as a free-lance producer for Iowa Public Television and taught a beginning news writing and reporting class at Drake University.
From Des Moines, Mary headed to the Bay Area, where she worked for the NBC affiliate in San Francisco covering the disappearance of Laci Peterson, several wildfires and the debate over medical marijuana.
When not working, Mary is usually training for her next marathon or triathlon. She also enjoys cooking, travel and time with her friends (including her furry ones.)
