Is your home filled with constant fussing and fighting, and sometimes, physical violence? One in four Americans suffers from domestic abuse, and if you are parents, think about this. How is that type of environment affecting your children?
For more than a decade, WTHR Channel 13 has been Shattering the Silence on domestic abuse, child abuse and teen dating abuse. Abuse is not always physical. Sometimes, it is mental, emotional, or verbal abuse that tears apart our homes and relationships. If you are in an abusive relationship, or know someone who is, please call 2-1-1 right now to connect with area agencies for help, hope and healing.
In Indiana, more than 20,000 children are abused and/or neglected each year. Studies show that 30% to 60% of people who abuse their partners also abuse children in the household. And 1 in 10 high school students admits experiencing physical dating violence in the past year. The violence in homes often spills out into our streets, contributing to crime. This is not just somebody else’s problem. This is a community problem.
