This map shows all panhandling arrests made by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department from January 1-December 31, 2012.
Click on a marker to see the location of the arrest and the number of arrests made at that address in 2012. IMPD made 54 arrests for violating the ordinance in 2012, 127 arrests in 2011 and 116 in 2010. An IMPD spokesperson attributes the decrease in arrests last year to the work of the IMPD Homeless and Panhandling Unit and panhandlers operating in compliance with the ordinance.
The City of Indianapolis code includes restrictions for panhandlers. It outlines the times panhandlers can be on the street, where they are not allowed to solicit money and how they actually ask for money (only signs allowed, no verbal solicitations).
