WTHR Blood Drive continues Saturday; donations still needed
The WTHR Blood Drive wrapped up its first day with just over 200 donations Friday. But we still have a long way to go to our goal of 1,000 units.
There's plenty going on this weekend with the Indiana State Fair and many other events, but we hope you take a little time to help us save lives.
During the summer months, blood supplies are critically low and that's why we need you. WTHR is teaming up with the Indiana Blood Center for this blood drive.
As an extra incentive, everyone who donates this weekend can register for a raffle for a four-pack to Holiday World and there will be winners at each location.
But when we say donating blood saves lives, it's serious business. Tami Brechner is evidence of that. She wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your blood donations. Last November, she went into the hospital to give birth to her sixth child. She had complications and needed a lot of blood to stay alive.
"That blood meant life to me. It was so important to me, my six children and my husband and I just can't thank people enough. It's so easy and can mean so much," she said.
Tami didn't know when she went into the hospital that day that she would need blood. We all hope we're never in that situation, but if we are, we want the supply to be there.
If you are able, consider raising your sleeve and give blood this Saturday.
The blood drive is scheduled for Friday, August 2, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Saturday, August 3, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. All eight Indiana Blood Center donor locations will participate.
You can make a difference by scheduling your appointment to donate simply by clicking here. The Indiana Blood Center also accepts "walk-ins" on both days of the blood drive.
The Indiana Blood Center and WTHR thank you for being a donor!
