Construction of the Deep Rock Tunnel will resume Thursday, six days after a fatal accident on the job site.

William Isaac Simpson, 25, died Friday while working on the project, 250 feet below the city.

IOSHA never officially closed the work site, but SKJV and Citizens Energy Group stopped work out of respect to Simpson's family and the crews he worked with and to permit investigation of the accident scene.

Simpson's family released this statement Wednesday:

"Isaac was a little brother to everyone. He was a man of few words with a big heart. Isaac was a very smart and honorable person who worked very hard for what he had. He took his job seriously, enjoyed the work he did, and was proud of the accomplishments they were making on the tunnel project. Ike's co-workers were like family and our hearts go out to them in this difficult time.

At this time we are anxious to find out exactly what happened Friday morning and the causes that took Isaac from us way too soon. We are trying to be patient and respectful as OSHA completes their investigation. We hope to find closure and answers so that no family has to experience a tragedy like this again.

The Simpson family appreciates all the support and prayer. At this time we would appreciate privacy to grieve the loss of our dear son, brother, uncle, and friend."
