A woman believed to be participating in the Geist Half Marathon Saturday morning was struck and critically injured by a school bus that was transporting runners to the starting line.

The accident happened in the 11700 block of Olio road around 6 a.m. Saturday as many pedestrians were preparing to participate in the annual Geist Half-Marathon. The investigation so far shows that a Hamilton Southeastern school bus was attempting to turn northbound on Olio Road from a shopping center parking lot just north of 116th Street.

The victim,34-year-old Erin Harris of Fishers, was transported to IU Saxony Hospital and then transferred to Methodist Hospital where she is in critical condition.

The driver of the school bus was David McCollum, 69, of Indianapolis.

Witnesses and evidence at the scene revealed that the pedestrian was running northbound in the crosswalk when she was struck.

The Fishers Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Team responded to collect evidence and investigate the crash. At this time it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
