A 53-year-old woman died after a crash at W. 17th St. and N. Tibbs Ave. in Indianapolis on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the driver was trying to make a left turn from 17th onto Tibbs when the crash occurred. Investigators say the woman collided with another vehicle that was southbound on Tibbs as she made the turn.

The woman was unresponsive at the scene and rushed to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries. The other driver had minor injuries and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

Neither alcohol nor speed played a factor, police said. However, the surviving driver will be given a blood test, as is standard for any fatal crash.
