Woman hits halfcourt shot at Siena basketball game, immediately gets proposal
ALBANY, N.Y. (WTHR) - A Siena basketball fan was in for the biggest surprise of her life when she hit a halfcourt shot, then she got one even bigger than that.
The Daily Gazette in Albany reports that Erin Tobin came out during a timeout in Thursday's Siena basketball game against Manhattan to participate in a Dunkin Donuts promotion.
She didn't know that her boyfriend was hiding out in the Dunkin' Donuts mascot costume.
After Tobin hit the shot, she said she was expecting to turn around and get a gift card. Instead, her boyfriend pulled off the costume and was waiting on one knee.
“I was jumping up and down after hitting the shot, since my brother said he’d give me $50 if I even hit the rim,” Tobin told the newspaper. “And then I turn around expecting a gift card from Dunkin’ Donuts and there he was on his knees, and I didn’t have any words.”
Her boyfriend, Steve Duckett, said he wasn't sure what reaction he'd get after she made it. “Oh, no!” Duckett told the paper. “And then I said to myself, ‘Of course she would hit the shot.’"
